Musical Fireside

Hi Family!

Thanks for all the emails today - it was great to hear from everybody.  It was a pretty slow week for us leading up to the fireside.  We were working so hard to get everything in order and ready for the big day.  Lots of preparations.  I had so much fun getting to jam with a few people in efforts to put music together for the event.  I got to work with a few non-members and less active members with the music and got them involved by playing with them.  It was such a unique and great opportunity.  Last week we went contacting downtown Harrisonburg, because they have this event called Friday's on the Square, and they do live music and a bunch of people go.  So we went down there to talk to people... I can't remember if I already told you or not... but I went up and started talking to this guy - Paul is his name - and it turns out he has been writing Christian Gospel music for 50 years.  I asked him to come play at the fireside and he said he would.  And more than that, I had been really worried about sound equipment and stuff like that, and Paul just offered to bring everything we could possible need.  It was a complete answer to prayer.   Kinda cool.  So we did a sound check with him on Saturday, and had some people come over to the church to run over their music and stuff like that.

Sunday was CRAZY.  We were at the church for 11 hours straight!  We had a stage set up, managed to get the piano up there, and chairs all the way to the back... it was great.  I'll send you some pictures in a separate email.  I was a part of 5 songs.  I played the new song I wrote out here (the Healer), I sang "Come thou fount of every blessing" with someone - It was great I'll send you a video of that.  I accompanied a girl who sang this Owl City song called "In Christ alone I stand", and all the missionaries performed the Missionary Medley (with a SIIICK guitar accompaniment from a non-member, and drums!!) and then Elder Hazeldine and I ended with Nearer My God to Thee (which was the name of the program) and had the congregation join us on the 4th and 5th verses.

It was a really great night. The spirit was there, lots of people came, and lots of non members and less actives came also.  The bishops of both wards asked if we would come back so we could do it annually.  And they are talking about doing it for christmas as well because it was such a big success!!!

Anyways, that's pretty much been the bulk of my week.  I'll send you a couple pictures with some blurbs in a minute. Hope you all have a good week!  This sunday we get transfer calls... I'm so nervous! We will see what happens.  Love you all! Thanks for all your continued prayers, love, and support.  I couldn't do this without you.

1- last tuesday night we got caught in the rainstorm...we were soaking wet and the puddles were huge... and I turned the parking lot into a slip n' slide. Best night ever!
2- We went and drew the plan of salvation at a park as a finding activity.  It was actually successful and lasted a few days!
3- A picture of the fireside...
